This is just one example of how a cybercriminal can manipulate you into entering your personal information.

Back in 2019, there was a vulnerability that allowed hackers “to use a link in TikTok’s messaging system to send users messages that appeared to come from TikTok”. If users clicked on the link, then hackers were able to access and gain control of all accounts. Hackers were able to do whatever they wanted with the account (post videos, see users’ private videos, and more).

Users should be educated and informed on the characteristics of phishing emails in order to be able to spot them. This is what you can do:

Remote keyloggers mostly affect our mobile devices or laptops because cybercriminals need to first access your device and then install software to record everything you type on the keyboard. This means that every key is recorded when you log into your personal account for example, email, bank, TikTok, etc. Hackers have will this information and can hack your account.

How to Protect Against Remote Keyloggers?

• Do not use third party keyboard applications,
• Do not open any attachments or click on links in email messages as the keylogger could be embedded in the attachment,
• Install anti-spyware applications to help detect, disable, and quarantine software-based keyboard loggers,

3. Brute Force Attack

If a password is equivalent to using a key to open a door, a brute force attack is using a battering ram. A hacker can try 2.18 trillion password/username combinations in few minutes, and especially if the password is easy and commonly used such as a nickname, phone number, partner’s name, pet name, just to name a few. Of course, the hacker could also perform a brute force attack for the user’s password if the password is a bit more difficult to guess. Brute force attack is very good way to hack TikTok.

How to prevent Brute Force Attacks:

Use a complex password. The difference between an all-lowercase, all-alphabetic, six-digit password and a mixed case, mixed-character, ten-digit password is enormous. As your password’s complexity increases, the chance of a successful brute force attack decreases.

Require multi-factor authentication.

4. Zero-Day Vulnerability

A zero-day vulnerability is a new security vulnerability that software vendors may be aware of, but there is currently no patch to fix it. This would allow hackers to exploit the vulnerability. If a hacker finds a vulnerability in TikTok for example, in the source code or database, the hacker could potentially leak all user data.

How to Protect against Zero-Day Vulnerabilities

There is no way to completely avoid zero-day vulnerabilities, but you can do the following as extra security precautions to prevent hackers from getting into your TikTok account:

• Enable two-factor authentication

5. By Hacking Other Accounts

A lot of people use other accounts such as Gmail, Instagram, Facebook, etc to log in on TikTok. Hacking these accounts much easier. Nowadays people use login with Facebook everywhere, so it is easy to convince someone to login Facebook into a phishing page.

Making Facebook/Instagram phishing page is much easier.
